Shows: The National

by Jennifer Murtha

Indie pioneers the National played to a packed house at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston with Wye Oak and Yo La Tengo. Before the band came on stage a camera followed them around backstage while the video was projected for all of us to see. The roar of the crowd got louder as the cameras filmed the bands pre-show routine and walk to the stage. Various angles of the band including vocalist Matt Berninger were shown on a huge screen with brilliant colors and effect. Sometimes the imagery like a huge tree seemed mysterious and haunted when accompanied by the song. Made for one of the most entertaining and visually interesting photo shoots I’ve done.
