Shows: Ben Rector

Tulsa native Ben Rector opened up the night for NEEDTOBREATHE at Stubbs. When I walked into the venue I was pretty shocked at how many people were there early but it was a sold out show. Quickly I learned why it was so packed… the second Rector took the stage the crowd went crazy. An obvious favorite artist by many in attendance they joined him in singing along to most of his songs including ones he introduced as new.

The highlight for me was not just learning about this really talented guy but his ability to properly cover a song. Telling everyone he actually had plans to do this rendition before the singers death, he explained to the audience that he felt is was not too soon to pay tribute to Whitney Houston. Putting his own spin on “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” the crowd was once again singing along (including myself) proving that this up and coming songwriter is one to watch.
